Ana Márquez is an art writer, poet, cultural journalist and lecturer based in Monterrey, México. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature from Tec de Monterrey, ITESM, and a Master’s degree with High Distinction in Comparative Literature, from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM. She has certificates from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in art writing, history, market, collecting and curating.

She is author of Sitios de Espera, a poetry book published in 2006 by Libraria, her own founded publishing house. She was recipient of Carlos García Septien’s Young Journalism National award for her feature ¿Extinción del libro?, about the controversial disappearance of the printed book in the newborn digital era, Mexico City, 1996.

Her writings have been published in national and international newspapers, magazines, journals and anthologies such as Beltway Poetry, Washington, DC, Periódico de Poesía, Mexico City, La Jornada Semanal, journal, México City, Región sin Dónde, Punto Umbría, Spain.

She has been invited as a lecturer and poet to national and international forums as the Encuentro Internacional de Editores y Ediciones Independientes, Punta Umbría, España 2005, and scholar symposiums such as Simposio Internacional de Poéticas de las Américas, in Texas A&M University, 2006.

Before establishing as an entrepreneur and director of her top-tier communication consulting and training firm, she worked for the Nuevo Leon’s Women’s Institute as Coordinator of ONG’s and International Liaison, Ana Márquez taught Communication and Mexican Literature in one of Tec’s prestigious high-school campus.

She is currently researching and writing about how contemporary women artists explore in their practices the construction of self-indentity/self-hood and agency as creative beings. Now she is focused on the conversations brought to the front by Surrealist women’s artworks and writings among them Kati Horna, Alice Rahon and Leonora Carrington.
